Press Release 19th June 2009

•    Conference Programme with 288 Plenary & Oral Presentations as well as 1,000 Visual Presentations
•    Unique Conference Programme Covering all Areas of Photovoltaics

Munich, June 19, 2009 – The Conference Programme for the 24th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference (September 21-25, 2009) and Exhibition (September 21-24, 2009) is available. A total of 1,583 abstracts have been received for the 24th EU PVSEC. Following the conclusions of the abstract review process, the Conference Scientific Committee, made up of 140 representatives from research and industry, put together a challenging programme of almost 1,300 plenary, oral and visual presentations. This September, participants from over 70 countries are expected to attend the world's largest specialized PV Solar Conference in Hamburg. Each of the five Conference days offers a wide-ranging variety of presentations from all areas of photovoltaics.

The Conference Programme covers e.g.

  • PV Markets and Deployment
  • PV Systems and Power Plants
  • Advanced Photovoltaics, including new Cell and Module Concepts
  • Thin Film Solar Cells, including Cells on Glass and Flexible Materials
  • Silicon Solar Cells and Silicon Feedstock
  • Components for PV Systems, Engineering and System Integration
  • PV Manufacturing

Each of these topics will be discussed in depth from different points of view and by lecturers with broad professional backgrounds. Prof. Wim Sinke, Conference Chairman of the 24th EU PVSEC, remarks: “Photovoltaic solar energy is rapidly maturing as a technology for large-scale use. Production and application volumes are entering the gigawatt range and ambitious scenarios are being presented to show that this could be, or rather will be, the solar age. Yet, the technology is only starting to show its full potential in terms of variety, performance and cost”. He adds: ”Organic solar cells fire the imagination of scientists as well as laymen. For the first time this conference has dedicated a special session to this topic. Although they have not yet made it to our roofs, they certainly have great potential. We look forward to exciting research results from labs worldwide, but also to the first product samples at the exhibition.”

The 6th European PV Industry Forum taking place in conjunction with the 24th EU PVSEC is jointly organised by the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) and the Conference Organiser WIP. This Forum will highlight the future prospects for the Global PV Industry and the progress achieved in the “SET For 2020” initiative.

The Opening Ceremony will take place on Monday, September 21, 2009, at 10.30 am. The daily Conference Programme starts at 8.30 am with highlight plenary presentations followed by a unique and carefully selected combination of presentations from all topics of Photovoltaics. On Friday, September 25, 2009, the 24th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference concludes with the summaries of the Conference.

Background
For 32 years now, the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition has combined a very nameable international Scientific Conference with an Industry Exhibition. Over 5 days of conference and 4 days of exhibition, new products and technical innovations from all areas of photovoltaics and from all over the world are on show.

The 24th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition EU PVSEC 2009 will be held in Hamburg, Germany. The PV Solar Conference is expected to attract some 4,000 participants, and the accompanying industry exhibition around 40,000 visitors. About 800 exhibitors will be presenting new ideas and technical solutions from the field of Photovoltaics. The EU PVSEC, which is held at different venues throughout Europe, ranks as the world's leading event specialized in Photovoltaics. It is supported by the European Commission, UNESCO’s Natural Science Sector, the World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE), the International Photovoltaic Equipment Association (IPVEA) and is realized in close cooperation with the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA).

Background information about WIP
WIP, founded in 1968, plans, develops and monitors the realisation and operation of systems and installations in the fields of Renewable Energies and environmental engineering. Since 1986 WIP has been the organiser of the European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference & Exhibition (EU PVSEC), which takes place once a year in Europe.
